Storyboard Text

  • Why aren't there any Friars in Hell?
  • Please pay for the thirty masses offered for a soul in Purgatory.
  • Please donate food, as I will pray for you.
  • Following the Friar's tale, the Summoner becomes furious and tells the audience about a story of a Friar who had a vision of hell. He noticed that he never saw a single friar in hell. Soon, the Angel told the Devil to lift his tail and twenty thousand friars came swarming out of Satan's "arse".
  • Why don't you visit often?
  • I may not visit often, however, I am constantly praying for you.
  • One day the Friar and his companions preached to a church and during his preaching, he gathered the people to pay for thirty masses offered for a soul in Purgatory. He receives items from people in church and with these items he went his way and peeped into houses and begged for food.
  • I have donated in the past, but now I have no more gold!
  • You give too little to the church!
  • As he begged for food, he would write the name of all the people that gave to him, “as if he would pray for them”
  • Are you kidding me?...
  • You are a wrathful man! God shall never grant power to a wrathful man.
  • He went from house to house and finally stumbles upon the house of Thomas, an ill man who is wealthy. Thomas questions the Friar why he does not visit him often and the Friar claims that although he does not come often to visit, he is constantly praying for Thomas.
  • The Friar states that Thomas is always ill because he has given so little to nothing to the church. Thomas says that he has given back to several various friars and is still ill, now his gold is all gone.
  • Friar concludes that Thomas should not be a wrathful man because the Friar prays to God day and night to never grant power to a wrathful man. Wrath is also one of the seven deadly sins.
