Oh no! We have that big APUSH test today over the 1920s! I totally forgot!
Good thing I studied.
Please tell me everything you know. My mom will kill me if I fail another test.
Sure! Okay so the Roaring Twenties were a major turning point in America's cultural history... lets begin with prohibition.
Prohibition began on January 16, 1920, when the Eighteenth Amendment went into effect. Prohibition was a nationwide constitutional ban on the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcoholic beverages
But prohibition caused more bad than good. People snuck alcohol and chose to disobey the law by drinking illegally. Also, violent riots and protests were common.
The 1920s were also the era of the Harlem Renaissance, the period of African-American literary and artistic growth.
Jazz music and the dance clubs that played it became widely popular as well.
