Storyboard Text

  • Soon, the nightingale decided to fly home to the forest. Only the emperor missed him. He longed for the real nightingale's sweet voice.
  • The emperor's people were taken with the new nightingale. They ignored the real nightingale, even though his voice was sweeter, as they were attracted to the beauty of the mechanical bird.
  • One day the mechanical bird broke. The watchmaker was called in.
  • One day, the mechanical nightingale broke. The watchmaker was called in.
  • I can fix the bird, but it must only be wound for special occasions.
  • Now the nightingale was gone, and the mechanical nightingale would not sing. The emperor of China grew sick and weak.
  • The nightingale heard of the emperor’s illness, and flew to him. He opened his mouth and began to sing. When the emperor heard the nightingale's sweet song, he opened his eyes and smiled. He began to cry tears of joy.
  • You came back.
  • I've missed you while you were away.
  • The nightingale sang a sweet song for the emperor. The two old friends visited late into the night. The emperor sat up in bed, the colour returning to his cheeks. The nightingale was happy that he could make the emperor well.
  • The nightingale loved the emperor because the emperor appreciated him just as he was. The emperor loved the nightingale because he was his companion. << >> The two friends never parted. As long as the emperor loved the nightingale for himself, the nightingale gladly sang his precious melodies in the emperor’s palace.
