  • Temptations
  • "I'M TIRED OF HOLDING IN THE TRUTH!"
  • Abyss
  • "Leave us alone!"
  • Revelation
  • "He told him to, I saw him I swear!"
  • Paul's temptation throughout the book is to speak up about who Erik really is. To speak up about how Erik tortured him when he was younger. And to speak up about how Erik influenced Arthur to kill Luis.
  • Transformation
  • "Now I know that I always need to speak up for myself!"
  • Reliving the act of how Paul was blinded was the greatest test, he was forced to face the worst moment of his life without any help. This made him realize that the only way to solve his problems were to speak up for himself.
  • Atonement
  • Paul gets a phone call from Joey, giving Paul the strength to tell the police the truth about Erik. Paul tells the police that he saw the whole thing and that Erik told Arthur to do it.
  • Return
  • "Yeah Paul!"
  • Paul's begins to change after Luis' death, then continues to do so with the flashback of him being blinded, and ends when Eric is caught stealing. This new knowledge allows Paul to tell the truth and speak up for himself.
  • Paul moving on to St. Anthonys, a private school is a symbolism for his atonement for his mistakes. Also, everyone congratulating Paul shows he is accepted and his task is complete.
  • "This is what I get for doing the right thing?"
  • Paul gains the gift of both acceptance within a new society, and the ability to speak up for himself when it's really needed.
