Storyboard Text

  • Mom, why does that bear not live where we do?
  • Well Jamie, let me tell you the tale of the great bears.
  • How's it going?
  • Hey!
  • Poor brown bear can't find food unless he blends in.
  • There is not enough food, I can't find any.
  • One day, Jamie was with her mom and she saw a brown bear on land. She asked her mom why the bear did not have white fur or live on ice like them.
  • It is much easier to get food over here!
  • Once upon a time, a long time ago, bears with brown fur and white fur used to live on ice together happily. As time went by, there was not enough food and it got harder for the brown bears to find food.
  • He can't find any food here with his brown fur. He will be too easy to spot.
  • I can not get any food here. I must find another place to survive.
  • This is because the white polar bears could not be seen in the ice because they blended in so it was easier to get food. The brown bears did not blend in with the ice so it made them easier to see and harder for them to get food.
  • Wow! Thanks mom.
  • That, Jamie, is why we have white fur and why brown bears do not live where we do.
  • To fix the problem, the brown bears thought it would be easier to find another place where they can find food easily. The white polar bears could stay on the ice because they could blend into the environment to find food.
  • The white polar bears survived on the ice and could have babies. If there were any brown fur babies, they could not live in this environment.
  • As many years went by, more polar bears living on ice had white fur. Soon, almost all of the bears living on ice had white fur.
