A Foreseen Enemy
Cortes and his allies retreated to their base in Tlaxcala and the natives started getting smallpox. The Spanish were immune but the Tlaxcalans weren't. Half of the population died. Cuitlahuac also died so his cousin Cuauhtemoc was the new leader.
The Final Battle
The Aztecs were left with no allies after the triple alliance the Spanish had. With the smallpox outbreak the Aztecs had barely any soldiers. The Aztecs soon began to die of from lack of water because the Spanish blocked of the causeways, canals, and aqueducts. When the Aztecs surrendered in 1521 Cuauhtemoc was hanged and died. Cortes then became governor and ruled. He then destroy the city.
