  • The 1920's was the beginning of a depression that would not affect the rest of the country for several years.
  • While the 1920's was a decade of progress and prosperity for many Americans,
  • For those living in rural areas and tied to agriculture,
  • Crop prices began falling after WW1, and never leveled out.
  • Driving many to starvation.
  • To make matters worse, natural disasters pummeled Arkansas farmers even further,
  • Making already difficult conditions exceptionally desperate,
  • Matters were even worse for black farmers, as the klan surged back with huge membership gains across the nation.
