Earth is thought to have been formed about 4.6 billion years ago.
Before water and life, Earth was a big fire ball and no life could survive on it.
After the Earth cooled down valcanoes and comets brought water to earth, and made it possible for organism to live on.
In the 1800's a new scientific law was proposed
"Life only comes from life," Louis Pasteur.
"We could conceive in some warm little pond, with all sorts of ammonia and phosphoric salts, light, heat, electricity and so present, that a protein compound was chemically formed, ready to undergo still more complex changes," Charles Darwin.
In Stanley Miller's experiment he designed an apparatus to simulate the anacient water cycle. He heated water and put in methane, hydrogen, and ammonia to mimic the atmosphere. Electricity was also put into the apparatus to represent lightening. After a week the water turned black because of the molecules joining together to creat amino acids, which is thought to be present in only living things.
