Lord Of The Flies Chapter 8
None of the boys want to impeach Ralph. Shortly after, Jack gets angry and storms off. He tells the boys that anyone who wants to join his tribe is welcome.
Ralph doesn't deserve to be chief. Who wants me, Jack Merridew, to be chief?
The boys realize that most of the biguns have left and the only ones left are Samneric, Piggy, Ralph, and Simon.
Meanwhile Jack and his tribe find a group of pigs. They decide that if they leave an offering for the beast, the beast won't bother them. What follows is a bloody and horrific scene in which the boys drive their knives into one of the pigs.
The boys left the head as a gift for the beast. The entire time Simon was hiding and had been watching them slaughter the pig.
The head, covered with flies, seems to be saying things to Simon. As the flies crawl over him, Simon stares at the head or the "Lord of the Flies." He watches it "grinning" back at him, and begins to hallucinate.
