Hi there! Today I will be teaching you about the Rutherford Atomic mOdel.
The Rutherford atomic model is the most famous model out of all of the atomic models. It was on the children's show "Jimmy Neutron".
The Rutherford model has a nucleus in the center, it is made of neutral and positive atoms. The outside of the model has electrons rotating around the nucleus. It almost looks like planets rotating around the sun.
alpha particles. Ernest Rutherford conducted the gold foil experiment. What he did was: get gold foil, surround it with fluorescent screen, and bombarded it with alpha particles.
The gold foil experiment was how Ernest Rutherford came up withhis model.
Now with modern chemistry, we know that that the Rutherford model is not accurate because there is too much empty space. Electrons don't travel in set paths. Their locations around the nucleus also vary because of how many energy they have.
