"My father, they have killed me!"
Okonkwo beats his youngest wife during the Week of Peace because she neglected to cook dinner. He is supposed to observe the Week of Peace with no violent behavior.
Even though Okonkwo loves Ikemefuna, Okonkwo participates in the death of Ikemefuna because it has been decreed by the oracle, and he is also scared of being thought to be weak by the other men with him.
Okonkwo becomes angry when he has nothing to do, so he beats Ekwefi. He accuses her of killing a banana tree. Okonkwo relieves his stress by beating his wives and children.
Okonkwo is not a very good hunter and Ekwefi makes a side remark because she is upset with Okonkwo for beating her. Okonkwo fires his gun at her but misses.
The last thing that lead to Okonkwo's downfall is the arrival of the European colonists arriving. Once they arrived, they took over and changed the way things were run. They forced all of the citizens to convert to Christianity ultimately leading to Okonkwo not having a spot as a leader.
