So Kayla, you said you wanted to know about atoms?
Yeah, I want to be a Chemist when I get older.
Well to start off, the theory was created by Democritus but this idea was shot down by other famous philosophers of the Greek era.
So During the 5th century B.C.E.?
Yes exactly, but in the 16th and 17th century, John Dalton believed this theory to be true and come up with scientific rules to prove so.
Wow, that's really cool, what are some of the rules?
Yep! these rules laid the basis for all things atoms today.
Well there are four rules... 1) All matter is made of atoms. Atoms are indivisible and indestructible. 2) All atoms of a given element are identical in mass and properties 3) Compounds are formed by a combination of two or more different kinds of atoms. 4) A chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms.
So these rules are still in effect today?
