  • Henry Ossian Flipper was born, as a slave, on March 21, 1856.
  • As a freshman at Atlanta University, in 1873, he was appointed to the U.S. Military Academy. 
  • He graduated June 14, 1877, and then accepted the position of second lieutenant.  
  • Flipper served at the following forts in Texas: Concho, Elliot, Quitman, and Davis. He also served at Fort Sill in the Indian Territory
  • Flipper was released as second lieutenant and after that, in 1901, he got a job as legal assistant to a mining company. He worked in that job for 11 years.
  • Henry Ossian Flipper died of a heart attack on May 3, 1940.
