Storyboard Text

  • If you move from your home, and to a new part of my land, you will be granted with more freedom and the right to pay me rent instead of working for me
  • It's a tempting offer but I am reluctant to agree figuring this is my home, but I agree and will move for you my Lord!
  • SERFdom to FREEdom
  • This is a great place tostart our town. This soil is great for planting and we are near the water. Thank gosh the Lord gave us a charter to make our own laws for our town.
  • The Revival of Towns
  • I agree! This is a great place for trade too, not only resources. We will be able to trade so much that we will have us enough wealth to last us the year!
  • I'm so happy! John, my husband just made a partnership with your husband, Peter and now the profits will increase and our businesses will expand! Thanks to the bankers, we will be able to expand also when we go to other cities and do business with our letter of credit.
  • We are looking forward to it! We could also do trade with the people in town in the guilds too, but that may not end well figuring they burn businesses that weren't accepted by the guild. We just have to be careful!
  • Guilds and New Business Practices
  • We have been successful in invading England in the name of Normandy! WE will make William the Conqueror our King and enforce our language and culture onto the Saxons. This is our home now!
  • Early England
  • Yes. Although he has made a sixth of the land his, he has been honorable in dividing the rest with his people. They worship him and he has taken control of the government. He also made sure to know how many people populated England for taxes.
  • I, Henry I, believe in sending the judges out to handle court cases for the people.
  • I, Henry II, believe in expanding the legal and justice system. Everyone should come to the royal courts instead of church courts. I also believe in a jury, where the common people of England help decide who the guilty party is. It helped settle disputes.
  • Reforming the English Law
  • Did you hear? King Henry just signed the Concordat of Worms which means he no longer has the right to appoint bishops! All the power lies with the Church.
  • I know. The king also signed the Magna Carta which is huge because it gave the barons/our feudal lords more rights and privileges which they did not have before creating such a different law system!
  • King Henry
