Storyboard Text

  • sedimentary rocks turn to sediment by erosion and weathering.
  • Sediment turns to a sedimentary rock with the process of compacting and cementation.
  • When sediment is compacted it forms sedimentary rocks and when sedimentary rocks are eroded or weathering occurs it produces sediment.
  • When the movement of plates occur (convergent) it forms a volcano. When magma exits the volcano it turns to lava. When the lava is done cooling it turns into an igneous rock.
  • when the process of heating occurs with a igneous rock it turns to magma.
  • When magma cools it turns into an igneous rock
  • When a metamorphic rock melts it turns to magma.
  • Metamorphic rocks are formed when a sedimentary or igneous rock has heat and pressure occuring.
  • A sedimentary rock or igneous rock turns to a metamorphic rock with heat and pressure
  • Sedimentary rocks
  • They are found by rivers deserts, etc.
  • -often contain layers - Look for grains
  • -Intrusive: in the earth, cooled slow -Extrusive: on earth's surface, cooled quick
  • Igneous rocks
  • -hard -made of crystals -layers are not common -found near volcanoes
  • -layering is common -different layers, different minerals -made of plates and flaky layers
  • Metamorphic rocks
  • -found near mountains
