What should I buy? Fair Trade or normal bananas?
I suggest you buy Fair Trade as more money goes to farmers.
I will take you on a journey to Costa Rica to show you what farmers do to make bananas.
Did you know that an average size banana farm in Costa Rica is 324 soccer/football pitches? That's why the farmers travel in mini carts.
To prevent any bugs from eating the bananas they cover them in plastic bags and spray them from a plane.
Farmers cut the bananas when they are not ripe so by the time they are shipped they'll still be perfect. Lastly, they wash the bananas two times to take out any bugs hiding.
Finally they are shipped out to your local supermarkets.
