  • "The pause was only long enough for them to understand what an enormity the downstream stroke would be."(Golding 14) the three boys find the pig. this quote shows civilization because they don't want to kill the pig since its not allowed.
  • chapter 1

  • "we'll have rules !" he cried excitedly. "Lots of rules! Then when anyone breaks 'em-"(Golding 33) this scene is after the boys found the pig when they have another meeting. This shows civilization because they want to make up rules like they had back home. they try to copy the civilization they had back home.
  • We need rules!
  • chapter 3
  • "Then the trail, the frustration,claimed him again and he searched the ground avidly."(Golding 49) This is where Jack madly tries to kill a pig . This is an example of savagery because in a civil world killing is not allowed and not normal.

  • "The gutted carcass of the pig swung from the stake, swinging heavily as the twins toiled over the uneven ground."(Golding 68) In this quote Jack and the hunters are returning from their hunt with the pig. this shows savagery because they happy for finally killing a pig.

  • " He was searching his mind for simple words so that even the Littluns would understand what the assemble was about."(Golding 79) In this Quote Ralph had called everybody for a late assembly and wants to figure out how to get rid of some major problems.

  • "Idly looking beyond the fire, he resettled the scattered rocks from their flat shadows into daylight contours. Just there was the big rock,and the tree stones there, tat split rock,and beyond was a gap-just there."(Golding 97) In this Quote the twins are on the mountain watching the fire when one of them sees a weird thing.
