Evolution of the Polar Bears (Continued)
Competition and Struggle for Existence There are several competition factors between the polar bears mainly being mating. A female polar bear mates about one every 3 years while males are ready to mate every year. Though you would think only female polar bears can produce the offspring, males often have competition within their own gender due to the fact that males fight to grab a female's attention. Another main competition between polar bears is the fact that the walrus population is slowly dying making it harder for the existence of polar bears. The competition present here is that many polar bears are starving due to the competition of which polar bears are able to eat the food first.
The biggest "Survival of the Fittest" factor between polar bears is one of global warming and the destruction of the polar bear's habitat. Scientists suggest that in the next three years only polar bears who gain enough food and energy will be able to survive in the fatal destiny that awaits the polar bears. With this being said in order for the polar bears to survive females and males will have to mate and reproduce while also collecting food and a suitable shelter to protect themselves for as long as possible.
70,000 years Ago: Grizzly bears don't have white fur however polar bears do creating a thick coating for them (a way for warmth).
The heat given off the polar bears reflects off the white fur and is absorbed by their black skin. This isn't the same with grizzly bears because they only have one coat of skin which is their brown fur.
There aren't as many grizzly bears as polar bears because they're not fit. If they stay in the cold, they will die also the polar bears will reproduce however the grizzly bears cannot mate.
After a while (70,000) years later grizzly bears have left the arctic area and all that are left are polar bears. Fun Fact: Scientists suggest that polar bears and grizzly bears might start mating with each other in a few 100 years if the polar bear population is able to change their habitat.
