  • "Here is a challenge second graders. How many two-digit numbers can you make with the digits 3, 8, and 1? Please write the two-digit numbers on your white erase boards and hold them up when you think you are done."
  • "Emily, can you share your answer with the class?"
  • "The two-digit numbers I made with the digits 3, 8 and 1 are 31, 13, 38, 83, 81, 18."
  • "That's exactly right Emily! Well done. That was a tricky question and you did a great job of combining the digits to make different two-digit numbers. I see that there are a few of your classmates that don't understand how you solved the problem. Can you please be my student teacher and help those who are still confused? Again, good job."
