  • Intro: To Kill a Mockingbird is set in the 1930's a time after the grate depression. The story is in the perspective of a young girl named scout. We gain knowledge of the down as she grows and learns about the world around her
  • Women in to kill a mocking bird are to act proper stay at home and care for their children as well as look proper
  • Calpurnia is a prime example for the domestic role of women as she cooks cleans ans takes care of Scout and her brother
  • Aunt Alexandra is a good example on how a white women should appear. She values the importance of wearing feminine clothes and accessory's and the way she speaks. ( 83)
  • Scout it the opposite of Femininity
  • She has gotten into fights with boys ( 22-23)
  • Scout always wears overalls (pg 83) , not dresses. Hangs out with boys. (pg 6)
  • Scouts tomboy behavour probobly stems from the fact that she is taught by her brother and his friend dill that being a girl is a bad thing. They tell her if she does not act a certain way that they would no longer hang out with her. ( pg 119)
  • Atticis's is a prime example of the " Male Expectation".
  • He has a good Job a lawyer , can provide for his family and does not show any signs of weakness in his character. Pg. 5
  • Men are expected to be very dominate , working to provide the family , strong as well as a gentleman
  • On the other hand Mr. Ewells does not meet the criteria as he unemployed relying on welfare and acts erratically. ( not a gentleman ) (pg. 30-31) and 170
