One time, Rome was a part of the Republic. Hannibal thought that Carthage should join the Republic, but they disagreed. Rome declared war and if they won, Carthage would have to be a part of the Republic.
After about 20 years of fighting, Carthage gave up. They agreed that if Hannibal and his army left them alone, they would give them power over the island of Sicily.
Scipio was the General of the Spain navy. In the Second Punic Wars, Hannibal knew he could win by surprising Rome, and attacking them from the north.
Hannibal brought his navy, cavalry, and 37 elephants. He left Spain, and went to Italy. When he arrived, he was ready for war, but had almost no elephants, and a small navy. They continued the second war for about 15 years on the italian peninsula, with the General Scipio.
One of the reasons hannibal liked to fight and cause trouble, was because of his childhood and his father, Hamicar Barca. During the 3rd Punic Wars, Rome still saw Carthage as an enemy. They continued to take over the entire Mediterranean, and parts of Spain.
These wars ended with Hannibal, signing a peace treaty, and handing over the land to a more fair ruler. He was tired of fighting and he didn't have as big of a navy as he did when he started. He drinks poison, killing himself, and he kept his ring with him. Then ending, a worlds greatest general.
