Storyboard Text

  • Even though our father has left all of us in search of riches, I will do my best to take care of you children!
  • I don't want want to go work for the tavern, I need to stay and take care of the farm!
  • Don't worry Lyddie, everything will be fine, we will get through this.
  • You should go work in the Lowell mills, You'll get paid 2 dollars there.
  • I slept, under a window less passage.
  • Ok I will!
  • Lyddie grew up on a farm in Vermont, Lowell, Massachusetts, with her brother Charlie, her very crazy mother, and her little sisters Rachel, and Agnes. After her father had left them in search of riches, her mother went crazy.
  • Thank you for letting me finally go!
  • YOU'RE FIRED!
  • One evening, Lyddie and Charlie have gotten a letter, stating both of them have to go to work to support the family. Lyddie was sent to work at Cutler's Tavern, and Charlie was sent to work in the mills. The letter that they received was from their mother and all of their earnings would go to help support their mother rather than them. They were in distraught from this.
  • Welcome to the boarding house!
  • At Cutler's Tavern, Lyddie was paid 50 cents for all of her efforts toward the tavern up keeping, all of which went to her mother, until a girl named Triphena, told her about the mills in Lowell, Massachusetts. she told her "You'll get paid 2 dollars if you work there." So, Lyddie left Cutler's Tavern, to work in the Lowell mills.
  • Since the mistress had left that day, Lyddie went back to check on her home. Once she arrived back at the tavern, she was immediately confronted by the mistress. The mistress then fired her for leaving without consent. Lyddie was then rejoicing in her head because now she was free to do what ever she wanted to do.
  • After Lyddie was fired from the Boarding house, She decided to go work in the mills over in Lowell, Massachusetts. She was able to take a ride from the boarding house owners brother. Once she arrived at the boarding house, Lyddie was sort of surprised to see what it was like to live there.
  • After she was welcomed into the boarding house, She was immediately assigned to a room to live in with the other girls. She was quickly taken out of that room because some of the older and more authoritative girls thought it would be appropriate for her to get accustomed to a smaller group of children.
