Elijah J. McCoy
The American Dream is a term that is often used but also often misunderstood. It isn't really about becoming rich or famous. It is about things much simpler and more fundamental than that.
Elijah McCoy was born May 2, 1844, in Colchester, Ontario, Canada. His parents had escaped slavery through the underground railroad. He invented many amazing inventions in his life and will be known for paving the path for many future inventors of all race.
Elijah McCoy earned more than 57 exclusive rights for his exception inventions. Some of his most well known inventions included a cup that was fed by lubricating oil through a tiny bore tube. All of these inventions are significant, but his most important accomplishment was being one of the first African Americans to be known as an inventor.
Elijah McCoy is important because he is one of the first African Americans to become famous for inventing things. He helped break the racial barrier and pave a new path for future inventors. Elijah McCoy had some good inventions, but his greatest affect oon society had to do with him ignoring what other people thought about what he looked like.
