Hi I am Gilbert Abbot I am 17 years old and I have a neck tumor
And I am Thomas Green Morton the inventor of ANESTHESIA I also cut my leg on a piece of equiptment because I was laughing so hard and I did not feel it until the laughing gas wore off
The patient was a young boy of 17 years old, named Gilbert Abbot, who had a tumor in the neck. Next to the surgeon John Collins Warren, Thomas Green Morton participated of the surgery, considered a success and the first concrete experience of general anesthesia.
did you know that ANESTHESIA is laughing gas
If Thomas Green Morton never discovered that laughing gas if it is concentrated it could be used as a anesthetic I probably would have died :(
Before modern anaesthetics, herbs, alcohol, opium or narcotics were used to cause unconsciousness, but they were not always effective, or in some cases were so effective that the patient died from overdose. Chinese practitioners used acupuncture to anaesthetise patients. By 1804 in Japan, Seishu Hanaoka developed a very effective form of general anaesthetic using herbs.
