Adolescents in Anne Arundel County Public Schools are being forced to wakes up super early five days a week to go sit at a desk and be too tired to even pay attention to their lessons.
In AACPS, High school students are awake by 6 AM and have to be in their first period by 7:17 AM. Middle School students start about 8 AM. How does this affect them you ask?
Experts say that typically adolescents are unable to fall asleep at earlier times and sleep in later to get the sleep they need (around 8-11 hours). They are unable to do this with the school start times they have.
Even sleep experts and Physicians are urging a delay for morning classes until 8:30 am or later.
How do you feel about the AACPS school start times? Do you feel that you would work better if you came in later and got more sleep?

Studies have proven that delaying school start times by one hour increased standardized test scores by at least 2 percentile!
