I woke up one night feeling dehydrated and was craving a drink that was sweet.
I went to the kitchen and took a sip of orange soda, but my taste buds weren't feeling normal. Then I had a sick feeling to my stomach, so I ran to the bathroom and threw up. ALOT.
I tried telling my parents that I didn't feel right at all, but they thought I just had a cold.
My parents took me to the hospital and the doctors ran a few tests on me. They found out I had Type 1 Diabetes because my blood sugar was really high and my breath had a distinct, sweet smell to it.
I was sent to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital and was there for a week. When I started feeling better the doctors explained to me what Type 1 Diabetes was and how to manage it. I was glad I could go home and embark on this new journey that affected my life.
Now it's been six years since I've been diagnosed, and I'm living normally and happy. Diabetes has impacted my life and its not really a disease to me now, but more of a lifestyle.
