Storyboard Text

  • I woke up one night feeling dehydrated and was craving a drink that was sweet.
  • I went to the kitchen and took a sip of orange soda, but my taste buds weren't feeling normal. Then I had a sick feeling to my stomach, so I ran to the bathroom and threw up. ALOT.
  • I tried telling my parents that I didn't feel right at all, but they thought I just had a cold.
  • My parents took me to the hospital and the doctors ran a few tests on me. They found out I had Type 1 Diabetes because my blood sugar was really high and my breath had a distinct, sweet smell to it.
  • I was sent to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital and was there for a week. When I started feeling better the doctors explained to me what Type 1 Diabetes was and how to manage it. I was glad I could go home and embark on this new journey that affected my life.
  • Now it's been six years since I've been diagnosed, and I'm living normally and happy. Diabetes has impacted my life and its not really a disease to me now, but more of a lifestyle.
