Today class we will be learning how to solve two-step equations. The problem down below is a two-step problem and we will be solving it. -5x-12=23
First we will want to turn the - 12 to a +(-12). That will make the problem easier for us. Now we have: -5x+(-12)=23
Now we will want to get rid of the number (-12) by using inverse operations and the equality property of addition. You want to add 12 to the (-12) in the problem. Since we are using the equality property of Addition we will want to add 12 to 23 in the problem. Then we get -5x=35
Now we want to get -5x down to just X. We do that by dividing the -5x by -5, to get -5x down to just X. Now we want to use the equality property of division to see what X will equal.
Once we divide -5x by -5 and we also divide 35 by -5 we will get X= -7. With the solution found lets look at our work. -5x-12=23 -5x+(-12)=23 +12 +12 -5x=35 /-5 and/-5 x=-7
