When Equality created 'light', he thought that he must share this invention with his brothers since he wanted to help them.
Once Equality showed them his invention, they acted the exact opposite as Equality hade imagined. They even wanted to destroy his invention.
Equality then realized that he did not make his invention to help others, but he made it because of his own knowledge. This then leads him to go the Forest. He is a complex character because the book makes people feel anxious for the time to come that he shares his invention with others, which then leads him to going into a forest because of his change
