In old English times many words that we have in our language today originated from countries like france and Italy. Other origins of words can be linked to latin, greek and Scandinavian roots. A famous old engliah poem would be beowolf
Beowulf was written in the old English period between 450-1150. This is one of the English language original poems and is believed to be Scandinavian originated. An example of Beowulf is... "beocyninga, brym, gefrunon". In English this means- "speak armgo danes, in days long sped". This old English poem helped change language into the middle English period.
In the middle English period 1150-1500. In that time there where tales made like the Canterbury tales. The Canterbury tales was about a collection of stories told by a group of people travelling from London to Canterbury.
Shakespear has made 37 written plays and has invented 1700 words. We still use some of these words today. It is difficult to read his poems because the words are spelt the same but have different punctuation and are said the differently.
Slang is in this modern age which means we use it today, regional slang is when there is slang in your region. Slang can be from different parts of the world,countries and states have different slang words. Slang can be like a different language which means you cant understand it.
In conclusion old English was very hard to read and it came from a lot of countries, some countries still use old English.
