The knight called Viginius had a beautiful daughter named Virginia. She is the most beautiful and virtuous maiden.
Virginia and her mother were walking in town when the judge Apius sees Virginia and is completely captured by her beauty.
Knowing that Virginia is too pure for him to claim in honorable means, Apius and another immoral person named Claudius form a plan to capture Virginia for the judge.
In Apius' court, Claudius falsely accuses Virginius of stealing a young slave girl from him years ago and raising the slave as his daughter. He demands that the judge return Virginia to him.
Apius rules in favor of Claudius and Virginius is sentenced to bring his daughter back to court and turn her over to Apius and Claudius.
Virginius returns home and tells Virginia what happend in court. He then gives her the choice of either dying while still pure or suffering shame for the rest of her life.
