As they were sailing towards Fiji island, the sail came undone. So they needed to come up with a plan to fix it. Elijah is looking at the sail at an angle of 20 degrees and knows the sail is mounted 15ft up on the pole. Elijah now needs to figure out what length his ladder needs to be so he can get to the sail. After doing some trig, Elijah finds that his ladder has to be 44 feet long.
Elijah now needs one of his friends to toss him up some rope to repair the sail. Elijah sees his friend standing 20 ft away from the base of the pole. His friend knows using an inverse function, he has to toss the rope at angle of 37 degrees, so that it reaches Elijah.
While Andrew was trying to catch the rope he fell into a huge hole. Elijah decided to help him out, he sees that the hole has a square shape while Andrew is inside. Elijah now needs to figure out the apothem and the so. Andrew tells him that the radius of the square is 5 .Using 5cos(45) he found the apothem is 3.5. Since it’s a square the side lengths are 7 ft each so he knows the perimeter is 28ft.After doing this he figures out the area which is A=½ Pa= ½ 28 3.5 = 49 sqft
