June 27th, the day of the lottery. A group of boys from the village erect a pile of rocks to use to "award" the winner of the yearly tradition.
Mr. Summers awaits for the villagers to settle down. The villagers are unable to settle as the yearly ritual of the lottery is upon them.
The inhabitants of the settlement wait nervously to pick a slip of paper from the box, this slip indicating whether or not they are the winner.
The unfortunate winner is declared. Their fate is set.
Death is the reward! The villagers proceed to hurl rocks and pebbles of all shaoes and sizes at the winner of the lottery, dispatching her instantly.
Every year, on June 27th, a tombtone appears in the graveyard.
