Storyboard Text

  • I still think it's partly their fault I did this
  • Restorative Justice Meeting
  • How do I say sorry?
  • What if they are angry with me?
  • He always looks so sour-faced
  • Ground Rules
  • Do I need to shake hands with them?
  • How do I behave if they say something I don't like?
  • I'm very nervous about the meeting
  • Action
  • I hope I can make a good impression on him
  • I will keep order, but allow everyone to say whatever they need to say
  • I want to be sure he's really sorry.
  • Preparation for a meeting takes careful preparation to ensure those involved have a successful outcome. Amongst other factors taken into account, are neutrality of venue (normally a room in a local hall), convenient for everyone, and PRIVACY.
  • Enacting an agreement
  • Participants agree to act in a civil manner, and to allow others to speak uninterrupted. Sacro RJ staff oversee the meeting, but speak only to summarise. There are set plans for meetings, but they are flexible enough to allow for a free exchange of comment and ideas .
  • Contacting PF with information on result
  • Whatever is agreed at the meeting is drawn up in writing as a plan, and is signed by all involved.
  • How RJ deals with referrals which do not end in complete success
  • Sacro RJ staff member Michelle records the outcomes of each meeting, administers any financial requirements; e.g. accept payments from Jim to pass on to Bob and his nominated charity, and ensure these are carried out within the time limits agreed.
  • Once all parts of the agreement have been completed, Sacro RJ staff advise the Procurator Fiscal (PF) of the outcome, which allows the PF to stop any pending prosecution relating to the matter.
  • Should the agreement fail, or is impossible to achieve, Sacro staff advise the PF, allowing a decision to be made on prosecution. Sacro reports to the PF on the outcome of every case, which includes fact and opinion which may assist the PF in deciding on the next action.
