  • John Proctor is the tragic hero. He sacrifices his life so that no one else is blamed. He also knew that he did wrong by committing adultery.
  • Peripeteia
  • John Proctor's flaw is that he committed adultery and doesn't go to church.
  • Anagnorsis
  • John Proctor shows excessive pride when he says he knows the amendments but forgets them.
  • Catharsis
  • Everything turns upside down when Abigail blames John Proctor's wife, Elizabeth, for witch craft.
  • He starts to take notice when Elizabeth gets taken by the authorities and waits for her punishment. John Proctor steps up to save her.
  • John Proctor gets hanged for his wrong doings. Abigail runs out of town and the witch trial ends.
