Storyboard Text

  • Ok class, how do we graph y<1/2x+2
  • Well you first start at the origin then move up two on the y-axis because the y-intercept is the number 2 in the inequality.
  • Yes, that's correct. Then, what do we do?
  • After that you find the slope which in this equation is 1/2 because its the coefficient of X. Meaning that, from where you plotted the number 2 on the y-axis you move up 1 and move 2 steps to the right.
  • Great! Then what's next?
  • Once that's done you draw a dotted line using those two points. The inequality has no line under it meaning that the line has to be dotted.
  • In order to shade it in you have to substitute coordinates, into the equation, that are not on the line you drew. For example (2,3), you substitute 2 in the x and 3 in the y, then solve. If the equation is true you shade that side that the coordinate is located in and if it's false then you shade the other side.
  • That is correct, thank you. Class dismissed.
