We want representation based on population!!
We want equal representation!!!
The Connecticut Plan accounts for us both!
Virginia Plan: Proposed by James Madison, this plan was favored by the larger states. It called for a two house legislator.
New Jersey Plan: Proposed by William Patterson, this plan was favored by smaller states. Each state got equal votes despite population.
Connecticut Plan: Proposed by Roger Sherman, this plan called for a bicameral legislator. One house (the Senate) gives states an equal vote, while the House of Representatives takes population into account.
The 3/5 Compromise: Southern states wanted their slaves to count for representation while Northern states did not because this would give the South an unfair advantage. The 3/5 compromise counted each slave as 3/5 of a person
Trade Compromise: This said Congress could not tax exports or regulate trade.
The Great Compromise: This combined the ideas from both the New Jersey and Virginia Plan. It resulted in 2 houses one based off of representation and one off population.
