Worker Claims She was Fired For violating Dress Code
By jonasina, Updated
A former worker claims she was fired because she did not follow the company's dress code. Ms. Henry said she was called into her boss’s office on Monday morning and told that she was fired because she did not have the right look for the job. She said her employer had warned her in writing that she needed to adhere to the company's dress code. Ms. Henry stated that the way she dressed expressed who she is. She said the company did not like her because of her hi p hop style. She did admit that her work environment was stuffy and full of older people, who dressed conservatively. She said she never felt like she fitted in because she was much younger than her coworkers. After one verbal warning and two written warnings she was terminated. She said that she is very upset and considering a law suit against the company for not allowing her to express her true personality. The company said that they had a dress code policy and Ms. Henry knew it when she signed her contract to work for the company. The environment was one that she made presentations in front of others one spokesman said. He said it would have been different if she worked in a cubicle but she was in a conservative setting and she needed to be dressed professionally. The spokesman’s asked that his name not be printed because of a potential lawsuit. The company declined to comment on her pending lawsuit.
