However, a shrewd demagogue, Saturninus had enough support of the equites to save him. Much of this support came from Glaucia’s bill allowing equites the sole right to constitute juries of permanent criminal courts.
Saturninus becomes tribune again. However, Marius disallows Glaucia’s consulship. This tumult leads to the death of Gaius Memmius, a hostile candidate.
Marcus Scaurus motions to pass the ultimate decree of the Senate-- essentially a revertion to martial law-- thus making Marius consul.
Saturninus and Glaucia surrender to Marius, and are locked in Senate house.
Enemies tear off roof and stone Saturninus and his supporters.
