  • this story takes place in west Africa in sierra  leon in the 1990´s, the characters of this story are Ishmael beah,  Junior Beah,  BeahKanei, Musa, Saidu, Jumah, and Moriba. This story is about a boy soldier fighting in the civil war.
  •                         Climax
  • In a long way gone the rebels start to attack which leads to ismahil running away and trying to get to safety. After that is done he starts to look for his parents in worry that they might  be hurt. He also manages to escape the rebels with his friends as well.
  • Falling action
  • The conflict in this story is how ismhal is trying to find his parents but he cant do it because the Ruf is trying to convert him into a boy soldier and make him fight in the civil war in Sierra so that way they have more men but creates a bigger problem for ismal because now he cant find his parents due to the ruf
  • exposition
  • Ismahl is finally transformed into a boy soldier a fighting machine because he is now fighting in the civil war in Africa but at the same time hes scared because he doesn't want to fight. They also are giving them drugs because if they get shot it will distract them from the pain and they will keep fighting.
  • when ishmael and the other children abilitate, ishmael and his best friend go to live with his uncle in freetown. While he is staying with his uncle he get an invitation from new york saying if he wants to talk about his story as a child soldier also he was being peaceful in free town until the rebels started to cause trouble again wich led ishmeal leaving freetown.
  • Ishmael finally travels to new york away from all the danger and has a long way journey there. He lives there away from all the danger and starts to go back to school, make new friends and family.
