Jesse Owens lived in poverty during his childhood until he reached college
Owens attended Ohio State University and was going to be coached by Larry Snyder. He had to Live off campus with other black athletes and segregation was still going on at this school.
Owens specialized in the long jump and sprints. He set 3 world records and tied one world record at a track meet in under an hour. This has been called "the greatest 45 minutes in sport."
Jesse Owens then got a chance to compete in the 1936 Olympics. He won 4 gold medals and this then changed the world of athletics, for black americans.
