  • Makkah is a place in Africa where Muhammad grew up in and was also called "The Ancient place of worship". Most people in Makkah were Polytheists and belived in many gods. The people of Makkah believed that the wealthy did not have to share their fortunes with the poor.

  • Muhammads father passed away when he was born so Muhammad lived with his mother. But according to tradition, Muhammads mother had to send Muhammad away to live with the Nomads. While Muhammad lived with the Nomads, he was taught Arab traditions such as, how to be kind, and help any needy member of the society.

  • When Muhammad was 5 or 6 he retured to his mother in Makkah. They had very short time together because a little while later Muhammads mother passed away. Muhammad was left in the care of this Grandfather, but then he soon passed away also and he eventually ended up with his uncle Abu Talib.

  • When Muhammad lived with his uncle, he soon began to raise the flocks of sheep and goats. As he became older, he was able to go out on trading journeys with his uncle. He was soon known as "the Trustworthy" because of his fair trades/work.
  • While Muhammad was trading he met a widow named Khadijah who was impressed by his trading abilities and proposed to marry him. They then had several children.
  • One day Muhammad went up into the mountain to pray in a cave. While he prayed he was visited by an angel named Gabriel, he said that Muhammad would now be a messenger from God, a prophet. He would now have to go around the town and teach people Islam. Muhammad taught of 1 god of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus.
