The French are here!
The Mississpian indians were the first to encounter the Europeans. There culture was quite advanced for their time they used weapons such as bow and arrows and made palisades that were like giant walls. This tribe eventually died out because of the Europeans who had brought better weapons and diseases like smallpox, measles, and mumps.
Hernando de Soto was the first European in Georgia he was from Spain, but he never colonized the land he only explored it. The three main reasons were the three G's god to spread religion and escape religious hardships, glory to gain land and power for the motherland, and gold to gain wealth for the motherland. The interaction between natives and the Europeans was very hostile and ended in thousands of natives deaths.
The English first settled on the Atlantic coast, but didn't go over the Appalachian mountains yet. Many of the factors that contributed to these successful colonies include major cash crops, good healthcare, and good protection against other countries or the natives. Because these colonies were so successful, Georgia was colonized as a buffer colony to keep the Spanish out from the south and the French out from the west.
