  • Romeo uses a simile in Act I, Scene 4 when he is talking to Mercutio.  He compares love to a thorn.  He says ''Is love a tender thing? it is too rough, Too rude, too boisterous, and it pricks like thorn.''
  • A soliloquy is when characters speak their thoughts aloud for the benefit of the audience. An example of soliloquy in Romeo and Juliet is the speech that starts with "Gallop apace, you fiery footed steeds" (Juliet, in Act 3, Scene 2).
