First, you have to identify if the equation requires use of the chain rule.
If so, use the chain rule formula, which is, f'(g(x))g'(x).
For example, (1+x^2)^10. Using the chain rule formula. Take the derivative of the outside and keep the inside the same. Then, multiply it by the derivative of the inside. The answer would be 10(1+x^2)^9(2x). Do you understand?
