This picture shows how busy the north cities were. Cities got busy and so many people by the industrial revolution.
Immigrants went to the north looking for work.
Slaves were free in the north.
In the south slaves worked in the cotton feilds. Most of the money in the south was made by selling cotton.
The southerners wanted to speed up the making of cotton so planterss used labor. There were about 698,000 enslaved african americans.
Not all 4 billion of the african amercans in the the south were enslaved. 6% were free the other percent bought their freedom.
