Storyboard Text

  • This stick has been held by Jesus before!
  • For remission of sins, an indulgence will cost you half your salary.
  • I've always been highly censorious of the abuses in the French Catholic Church but I have never been sceptical that I am God's chosen instrument in the spiritual renewal of the world.
  • I fervently believe that salvation is not reached through faith like what the papacy is deceitfully preaching, therefore I must object the corrupt practice of selling indulgences.
  • Throughout the 16th Century venality pervaded the papacy. Simony; the selling of indulgences for remission, relics for privilege, and pilgrimages for privilege were major factors that contributed to the churches' corruption. Whilst the church continued their deceit, later would they realise it would evoke a schism in the church.
  • "A dog barks when its master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God's truth is attacked an yet would remain silent" -John Calvin
  • John Calvin, born in 1509 in France, was a theologian and ecclesiastical statesman that had a strong reprobation towards the churches' corruption. Later in John Calvin's life he would become the preeminent Protestant theologian as Martin Luther's successor, later to pass away in 1564 in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • I must leave a legacy behind for my followers and act as a prophet!
  • I am a theologian who believes in predestination, so instead of being a public figure who preaches my beliefs I will take a subtle approach and gain followers through my humility.
  • Due to the churches' venality, an influential leader, Martin Luther, became present and sublimed with reprobation towards the church. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther became evident for the 95 Theses which he nailed against the Wittenberg Church noting his disgust in the churches' corruption. This would now begin a prodigious protest against the church.
  • We must act immediately. With Protestantism growing rapidly, it endangers the Catholic Faith, therefore amelioration must occur in order of reinvigorating the church to our once faithful followers.
  • With Martin Luther's followers proliferating, John Calvin decided to convert during 1532-1533. Through private study and failing to find a resolution in absolutions, penances, and intercessions, John Calvin's conversion was sudden.
  • What Calvin didn't realise by reforming was that he may find himself counter-reforming, arising a new schism between John Calvin and Martin Luther. The most obvious difference was that Luther was a prophet who wanted to leave a legacy as opposed to Calvin who was systematic and believed in theology and predestination.
  • Calvinism started in 1541. It is a branch of Protestantism that accentuates theologian traditions and forms of Christian practice. The council of trent emerged in 1545 to 1563. The council played a critical role in reforming the church and revitalising it to many parts of Europe.
