  • The Ambush
  • The Stand Off
  • Aftermath
  • Miltiades (Athens) and his men stayed up in the hills in their formations and waited for the perfect moment to take the Persians by surprise in 490 B.C. due to Darius (Persians) wanting to take land from the Athenians.
  • The Retreat Of The Persians
  • There was a four day stand off between the Athenians and Persians, that took place at the land of the Bay Of Marathon.
  • The Run of Marathon
  • At the end of the four days, the Athenians had demolished the Persian fleet and had won the battle of Marathon.
  • Nike! Nike!
  • The Persians and Darius retreated and circled around to attack Athens directly. This would lead to the battle of Salamis.
  • Pheidippides ran 26.2 miles from the Bay of Marathon to Athens. That is how we got the name Marathon for the races that are 26.2 miles in the modern day world.
