  • Born 1542 to James V of Scotland and Mary of Guise, her father dies when she is just a few days old and she becomes Queen of Scotland whilst her mother acted as regent
  •  In 1558 Mary was forced to marry the French Prince Francis as people attempted to unite Scotland and France. Mary becomes Queen of France the next year when Henry II died but Francis died in 1560
  • in 1560, the English fleet expelled the French from Scotland and Mary of Guise died to cause this and Scotland returned to be protestant on friendly terms with England
  • In 1561, Mary returns to Scotland and in 1565 married Henry Stuart who in 1566 murdered her close friend David Rizzio
  • Henry Stuart then became ill and in 1567, was murdered. Mary then married the man thought to have murdered him. She was then forced to abdicate
  • In 1568, Mary fled to England where she was held captive. She proved a problem for her cousin Elizabeth as she made plots to overthrow her
