Storyboard Text

  • Theme
  • This is a theme because man is required to help out his fellow human and give to them. If he does not do this in life, he must do it in death. Marley is warning scrooge about three spirits that will come to help him shape up so his chains will be lighter than Marley's and he will not have to carry a tremendous burden.
  • Theme
  • "It s required of every man, the ghost returned, that the spirit within him should walk abroad among his fellow men, and travel far and wide; and, if that spirit goes not forth in life, it is condemned to do so after death.
  • Theme
  • Indirect Characerization
  • This is indirect characterization because it is characterizing scrooge as rude and mean. Scrooge is rude because he is talking to his nephew with intensity and impoliteness. Scrooge is mean because he detests people who say Merry Christmas and thinks people should be boiled for saying it.
  • "A Merry Christmas, uncle. God save you".
  • "Every idiot who goes about with Merry Christmas on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding".
  • Indirect Characterization
  • Scrooge is indirectly characterized as straight up cruel because he wants to save every bit of money he can get because he is greedy and mean. He wont give anything to the poor and certainly not anything to the portly gentlemen.
  • "Many can't go there, and many would rather die".
  • "What shall I put you down for?
  • "Nothing".
  • "If they would rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.
  • Internal Conlict
  • In this scene, Scrooge is being left by his love, Belle, who has found someone else to love. Scrooge is starting to show signs of greediness and avarice which is why Belle is leaving him. Belle does not want to be with Scrooge if all he cares about is money. This is an internal conflict because it is inside of scrooges head.
  • "A Golden one".
  • "What idol has displaced you".
  • Scrooge is being warned about ignorance and want because those are England's greatest problems at the time. Most people ignore them because they don't care. This is symbolism because the ghost is England and the children are under his cloak which means England is sweeping it's problems under the rug.
  • Symbolism
  • "This boy is ignorance. This girl is want. Beware of them both...beware this boy, for on his brow I see that written which is doom".
  • This is symbolism because scrooge does not want any of this to happen. Scrooge is showing signs of regret for saying certain words. Scrooge wants to change his ways so he can change his future based on current choices. Scrooge wants another chance to be a better person.
  • Symbolism
  • "Before I draw nearer to that stone to which you point," said Scrooge, "answer me one question. Are these the shadows of the things that Will be, or are they shadows of things that May be, only?"
