Cathy Queen of Cats
Our Good Day
Esperanza was talking about Cathy's cats and describe how they acted "Cats asleep like little donuts,"(Cisneros 12). "Cathy Queen of Cats" has a simile telling how the cats are sleeping in the shape of a donut. This simile shows the theme neighborhood because Esperanza is talking with/about the people in her neighborhood throughout this vignette.
Esperanza is riding her new bike that she shares with her new friends, Lucy and Rachel. When they rode by Esperanza's house Esperanza described her house. "Past my house, sad and red and crumbly in places,"(Cisernos 16). "Our Good Day" has a personification in it when Esperanza is describing her house as sad. The personification in this vignette shows the theme neighborhood also, because Esperanza is hanging out with her new friends in her neighborhood.
Esperanza was talking about some things Nenny and her have in common that make them seem like sisters. "Not the shy ice cream bells' giggle of Rachel and Lucy's family, but all of a sudden and surprised like a pile of dishes breaking,"(Cisneros 17). "Laughter" has a simile in it when Esperanza was describing the laugh that Nenny and her have. This vignette also fits in with the neighborhood theme, because she is comparing Nenny and her laugh with Rachel and Lucy.
